Benefits of Therapy
In order to possess what you do not possess
You must go by the way of dispossession.
In order to arrive at what you are not
You must go through the way in which you are not.
T.S. Eliot

Research into the benefits of therapy has demonstrated the importance of the relationship between therapist and client. In studies, this proves to be even more significant than the orientation or educational discipline of the therapist. People seeking help are looking for a professional who is warm, genuine and accepting. While some therapeutic approaches are more effective for specific problems, the overriding factor in the effectiveness of therapy is whether a client feels safe and comfortable with a particular therapist. There is an ease in the interaction, willingness for the therapist to share their wisdom and a sense of presence that lets the client know that the therapist understands and accepts them. Effective therapy enhances the client’s ability to monitor their own life and ultimately affirm a sense of confidence and esteem that frees them up to be more purposeful in their lives.
People come to counselling for many reasons: to sort through a relationship issue, to deal with a major life change or loss, to learn how to cope with feelings, to face a crisis, correct negative self-talk, to begin or continue a process of deep healing, to better understand oneself. Often there is a missing experience that can be offered to you in the therapy process. I bring skill and experience to the process of healing that is unique to you. My job is to become familiar enough with your journey to help guide you to a richer fuller life.

You need not leave your room.
Remain sitting at your table and listen.
You need not even listen, simply wait.
You need not even wait; just learn to become quiet, and still, and solitary.
The world will freely offer itself to you to be unmasked.
It has no choice; it will roll in ecstasy at your feet.
Franz Kafka
